Should Capital Punishment Be Effective - 1106 Words

Capital punishment is constitutional as long as the death penalty is pain free, however, there is a huge controversy about whether the use of execution drug is constitutional or unconstitutional in light of the Eighth Amendment. The Eighth Amendment prohibits the federal government from imposing cruel and unusual punishment and there are arguments about drug injections as not being effective enough to sedate or anesthetic a person until death.() Lethal injection became popular around the late twentieth century as a form of execution intended to replace other methods, notably hanging, electrocution, firing squad,beheading, and gas chamber, which were considered to be more painful. One of the most i mportant reason why it is necessary to execute a criminal is it’s effect on the surroundings. In some cases, it is very dangerous for a criminal to remain living in prison. There are chances of this person escaping and committing other crimes. Also, there are chances that this person might still have power even from prison and command other people to do his â€Å"dirty works† for him. This puts danger in people s lives, while other times it might effect other prisoners. In some other cases, these criminals might have mental problems or simply feels superior and attack other prisoners. There is a saying â€Å"an eye for an eye; and a tooth for a tooth,† which is another strong argument of the capital punishment. No sympathy for these creatures that have preyed upon the innocent. When a criminal does an act to fulfill his selfish motives resulting into personal gains then justice in society is disturbed. To maintain this justice the criminal should be punished wi th the same intensity of punishment no matter, even if it is capital punishment.
